Building the Prototypes

Different Prototype Features

These pictures feature buildups of the clay/fiberglass prototypes that were used in the creation of the Commuter.  It is unsure of the location of the project but the pictures date back from late 1956 through early 1957.  Brooke Stevens, the creator of the Forward Control Jeep apparently didn’t rest long after the introduction on the FC-150 to expand on his “Extraordinary” design.  Unfortunately for the perils of Willys Motors some of Stevens wild designs never came to flourish.  Steven's admitted in an interview that he might have been a little ahead of the game with the new Van craze that was about to explode in the US market in the 1960’s.
