Dan’s truck here has kind of been in a state up suspended animation and I’m told will be put on the front burner in the coming year.  This is actually a truck that should interest many and not just because it is an M-677.  Many people out there love the look of the FC Jeep but really wish that it had the capability of traveling today’s roadways with ease.  Well this combination provides one of the easiest ways to make your FC roadworthy without breaking the bank.  The powertrain starts with a proven GM 350 crate motor right from the parts warehouse.  3 year, 36,000 mile warranty and drop a carburetor and a 160 degree thermostat and you overheating troubles are a thing of the past. Back it up with a Turbo 400 transmission and the 205 transfer case and you’re assured many trouble-free miles.  With any repower changing all the components in the system is a must and the ¾ ton axles out of a 1973-87 Chevy Suburban fit the bill exactly!  A Dodge M880 steering box takes care of the turning chores.  Of course there are many small details also incorporated in this build but this recipe is a proven design and most parts are available right over the counter of our local parts store should the need arise.  If I were to ever build a everyday streetable FC-170 this is the path that I’d follow.  Can’t wait to see her rolling down the byways of America in the near future!
