It’s kind of hard to see but the original cover is made of plywood and is recessed inside of the original windshield channel and the passenger side door is modified a bit to hold it in place. Needless to say not very waterproof to the outside elements. With the front arm support now relocated it’s time to design and build a new cover.
Here is a preliminary look at the cab cover, the area around the windshield has yet to be finished along with other details. The ridges in the cover were made to mimic the ridges that Willys put in the wheel well arches inside the cab under the seats.
The objective was to keep it all looking exactly like the factory would have done it. The intermittent shiny spots on the cover are where it is welded to a strengthening frame underneath – kind of like the stamping on the underside of a car hood.
The latching mechanisms that hold it down are late 1950’s vintage.
A better look at the underside of the cover.
The passenger side door was also modified for the new cover. It was closed up to give it that “Factory Feel.” Very nice work!
