Now it’s time to block out the body and get a finish that is ready for a top coat. You can see here that Kevin is systematically attacking the cab of the M-677. A great approach that ensures everything gets its fair amount of attention.
Complete with a mustard primer and fogged on contrasting coat to pull out any imperfections when final wet sanding is done.
It’s difficult to know where to stop as there are a lot of waves from the factory, real bad spot weld puckers, etc.- these are just sloppy. (I know it was a military truck and no one cared if panels lined up) We want to make this super nice but don’t want to lose the character of what it was originally. So a slippery slope, but we are leaving some of the character flaws in it, however it will be straighter with better panel and door fit than factory.
Now the roof gets a once over.
Kevin had shot everything gray primer after blasting, and then this was contrasting red so he could see any surfaces that needed attention. Then the final primer coat and sealer was applied.
All the doors are now ready to reinstall.
