Here’s another reason you must attend next year’s FC Roundup. I get so damn giddy at these shows I can hardly function well enough to record all the really cool trucks & ideas out there!!! But I do remember some details of Roy’s Off-Road adventure M-677. Now I know many of you out there are saying, “Wow! That is exactly what I want to build! I had that exact feeling after looking at Roy’s modified 677 and I had no inspirations of that idea before the show! See what the Roundup does to a guy???
OK, OK, focus man! Details….. Roy’s M-677 runs on a stock frame and he recently add a Dana 60 front & a 14 Bolt Rear end, both with 4.88 gears. He’s just running a stock Chevy 350 and a 700R trans with a 208 Transfer Case. Future plans include a fuel injected Small Block Chevy so he can handle the off camber stuff with ease. He uses his truck at many off-road events throughout Southern California and is a member of the Hemit Jeep club. Oh yea, 37” tires shod this beast which really surprised me as they seemed to fit the truck so well. I thought they were somewhat smaller. Roy shuttled my buddy Dan D. and I to one of the nightly dinners and the truck had a really nice ride to it. I spent a good deal of time lying on my back checking out the details on the underside of this truck too. Really solid system and it sure looks like a capable off roader.
Here’s one thing that caught my attention right away. How come there’s so much legroom in the back of this 677? Well Roy kept the engine as forward as he could and was able to remove the battery box and give the rear of the stock Cerlist engine compartment a bob to create quite a roomy interior. The rear bench is from a Dodge Caravan and is sitting on a storage compartment where he stores straps, shackles, and other recovery gear.
As he might be nicknamed “Pick & Pull Roy” can often be found at the local salvage yard looking for more toys for his ride. I believe the front seats came from a Jeep Cherokee and the grab handles from another Caravan. Roy is very resourceful and I’ve noticed some of his ideas have found their way to other FC enthusiasts Jeeps. Now the dash is one of Roy’s own custom creations. It’s large enough to provide an ample command center and also hide the Vintage Air system that will eventually be installed in this rig.
This custom Winch bumper is an off the shelf unit that was made for late model JK Jeep Wranglers. Roy just fabricated some bumper brackets for the front of his M-677 and bolted the assembly right up!
