The trip to Silverton is about 30 miles down the "Million Dollar Highway" and for those of you that haven't traveled it before it can have the odd experience of leaving pucker marks in your seat cushion long after you have left your car!
This area is between the pucker marks that you leave on your seat south of Ouray and before the area that Doug Mykol named "Divorce Overlook" just past Red Mountain pass. We got lucky this time and got behind a moving van that wasn't familar with the area and rode behind him all the way to Silverton.
This is a calm and beautiful area south of Red Mountain pass on the Million Dollar Highway.
We got lucky and beat the Durango/Silverton train into town before we had lunch. A quick photo shoot and then it's off to lunch before the train unloads!
After lunch we got caught in a 3 hour rain delay before heading off to Animas Forks ghost town. It gave the girls plenty of time for shopping and for the streams to fill their banks. Here's a dam along the road to Animas that could use a little repair.
Jason & Milinda headed towards Animas Forks.
How come all my photo shoots have to have a restroom in the background? Still a very beautiful place.
Looking back towards Silverton.
Now my photo expertise is really starting to shine! OK, maybe not.
Well we made it to the ghost town. Time for a little "Look See."
Missy is behind the camera now!
Now I know why we stopped at the restrooms!
Sure, don't worry. The floors are safe.
I finally let my wife catch me without my hand in front of my face.
A bay window. This must be the bosses house.
There are chimpmunks everywhere.
On the way back and I'm trying a new approach.
Heading back towards Silverton.
A little scenery along the way.
Heading towards Red Mountain Pass.
Even the highway has swithbacks!
