With all the tedious work of getting the body just right it is now time to see if all that hard work would pay out in dividends. They took a lot of time to get the color and sheen just right. Kevin sprayed the roof this week and although it looks dark and shiny here, it is a accurate match to the original paint that was on it and is semi gloss. (But not much semi) The spray booth lights do play tricks. It will be painted in sections and Kevin will probably rehang the doors to shoot the sides so all is consistent. He is doing a super job, it should all be green within a week.
I think Kevin did ten different mixtures with different levels of flattener and finally nailed the color and sheen – a perfect match to the samples taken off the vehicles original paint. The metalwork Kevin did on these doors looks awesome – not a seam or weld joint detectable.
Inside of the cab was shot today, it will move quickly from here. We’re very anxious to see the fully painted cab!
The cab is completely done and ready for reassembly – it came out spectacular!! All the doors are done and ready to bolt on and many of the peripheral parts are finished.
We don’t want to add any weight to the cab before its goes back onto the chassis so now the chassis begins. Once the chassis is completely redone the cab will go back on for reassembly with doors and glass etc., and finally Kevin will finish and paint the bed (the bed is blasted and primed but will need some minor dents etc taken out before it goes green)
What an awesome job so far! Can’t wait to see it out in the sunlight and back on the chassis but for now it will be bagged up for safe keeping. Let’s move onto the running gear.
