Now were really getting somewhere! This is one of the last pieces to be painted before the complete chassis is ready to accept the restored body. It’s all been masked off and rolled into the booth for a green makeover!
You didn’t think we’d forget the rest of the drivetrain did you? The assembly has been completely serviced with new seals and gaskets and has been shot with the first seal coat.
Here we go, 1964 factory fresh! The paint is a bit wet here and should flatten out more as it cures. We figured out how much of it was assembled when they originally painted it and duplicated the same assembly level so that all painted surfaces would be as the factory did it – hopefully our coverage and finish out are a bit nicer as we are only doing one, not 100 as they did.
This is as good as the oil pan is going to get. It was a very rough casting but we didn't want to take away from the original appearance in any way.
The trans/T-case/OD has had a chance to cure now and the shine has softened a bit. Looks like just the right finish.
Oh yea, we’re getting close now! The engine is really coming to life now that all the accessories have been added. Next set is to marry the two assemblies and set it back in the chassis.
The visible Alcoa casting numbers in the Cerlist block make everything up to even the sternest judge's standards!
All I can say is “WOW!” What an awesome job so far! The details is this restoration are really going to make this truck pop when it is back on the streets and struttin’ its stuff!
Well we all know what happens next. BRING ON THE CAB!!!! Unfortunately we’ll all have to wait for the time being, but rest assured this project will indeed pick up steam once the two parties are reunited!
