As with all restorations of older vehicles sourcing the correct parts can be a challenge. 90 degree long valve stem tubes in the correct size don’t exist for the FC DRW’s so these TR150 stemmed tubes had to be gently bent in a fixture to work properly.
Also only flaps with a center outlet are available so these had to be laid out and a hole was punched in the correct location. A plug for the original hole was made and glued in place.
Here is the adhesive that was used to secure the plug.
The factory correct treads were sourced and we’re almost ready to mount some tires!
Here the tires, tubes and flaps are all ready to go.
All the rims were separated, blasted and prepped for some fresh red paint.
A closeup of one wheel painted.
All the wheels are now ready for rubber. The split rings were painted silver to match the original Fire Service look of the truck. These are really gonna make this truck shine!
One down, six to go! The rims were masked off and great care was taken during the reassembly of these wheels. No one wants nicked up rims at this point.
