Day one of Jeepin' started off with a visit to see Greg Pieper, owner of San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours. He was very excited to see one of the old tour jeeps and gave me the full tour of his establishment. We told him that we were going to Yankee Boy first and he looked towards the mountains and said he had something for me before we left. He pulled out a duffel bag full of ponchos and it turned out that he was right. The first two days were a little wet up there but then cleared up for some great times.
This picture really takes me back. Imagine the day when the street was lined with Willys Wagon & Forward Control tour jeeps! Kind of gives me the chills!
This was the first time I had to meet Greg and he is a very nice guy and a great spokesman to carry the torch for the historic Jeep company. He has been running the business since 2004.
Of course Greg wanted me to load up this Wagon for restoration and he said I could leave the FC there and he would take good care of it. I told him that I'd have to take a rain check on his offer. He plans on restoring either it or an old CJ that he has in his possession.
As you can see the clouds are pretty close. It figured that Greg would be right and we had to turn around before we reached Ynakee Boy Basin. It rained all the way back to town and we just made it to the rental house before the skies really opened up.
